Symptoms
- Error 550; speed reading inaccurate or zero; motor assist may be limited
Common Causes
- Rear wheel speed sensor magnet knocked out of alignment
- Dirt or metal debris on the speed sensor
- Speed sensor wire damaged near the chainstay
- Magnet fell off the spoke (common on rough trails)
Fix Steps
Step 1: 1. Check the speed sensor magnet on the rear wheel spoke — Bosch magnets are small and easy to knock off
Step 2: 2. Clean the speed sensor on the chainstay with a cloth — metal debris from the chain can stick to it
Step 3: 3. Realign magnet to pass within 5-10mm of the sensor
Step 4: 4. If magnet is missing, replacements are available on Amazon (~$5 for a pack)
Step 5: 5. After fixing, ride the bike above 5mph for 10 seconds to reset the error
