Bosch Performance Line/CX/Active Line/Smart System — Error Code 10
Reviewed by certified eBike technicians · Last updated July 18, 2026
Quick Answer
10 on Bosch = Speed sensor fault — rear wheel speed signal missing or erratic
Severity: Check soon — speed sensor issue · Limited riding OK, diagnose soon
Error 10 on your Bosch indicates: Speed sensor fault — rear wheel speed signal missing or erratic.
Check soon — speed sensor issue — Speed sensor fault — rear wheel speed signal missing or erratic
Symptoms
- Error 10 on Intuvia/Kiox/Nyon display; speed reads zero while riding; motor assist may cut out intermittently or default to walk mode only; range estimate shows dashes
Common Causes
- Speed sensor magnet on rear spoke knocked out of alignment or missing
- Dirt or metallic debris on the speed sensor pickup
- Speed sensor wire damaged near chainstay from chain slap or impact
- Sensor connector loose at motor or controller
- Magnet-to-sensor gap exceeds 8mm — signal too weak for reliable detection
Fix Steps
Step 1: 1. Check the speed sensor magnet on the rear wheel spoke — Bosch uses a small round magnet that can easily detach on rough terrain
Step 2: 2. Clean the speed sensor pickup on the chainstay with a dry cloth — chain debris and metal filings can stick to the sensor face
Step 3: 3. Realign the magnet to pass within 5-8mm of the sensor pickup as the wheel rotates
Step 4: 4. If the magnet is missing: Bosch replacement magnets are available at dealers or online (~$5-8)
Step 5: 5. Inspect the sensor wire routing from the chainstay to the motor housing for cuts or abrasion
Step 6: 6. Unplug and firmly reconnect the speed sensor connector at the motor
Step 7: 7. Ride above 5 km/h for 10 seconds to reset the error — Bosch systems auto-clear speed sensor faults after successful detection
